I am doing my kids returns on turbo Tax free 2020 and 2021 premier. My oldest son 2020 taxes was rejected because of wrong birthdate His birthdate is correct I ended up giving his tax return to our tax guy who does my wife's and mine. He had no problem sending it in e-file. Fast forward to 2021 taxes using turbo tax premier and again the same issue I am having with my oldest son birthdate. I probably will have to mail his in. I firmly believe its a flaw in turbo tax not the IRS for his taxes being rejected for wrong birthdate. The reason I am using Turbo Tax was to save on the cost that account would charge for the kids. Guess it would have been better to paid him than to deal with a flawed software
Sorry, but the IRS gets the DOB from the SSA files, and it can be wrong there. One of my family member's date was wrong at SSA, and it turned out that his file there had been mixed up with someone else with a similar name.
When did you update Social Security? It may take awhile for the IRS to get the updated info from SS. You may have to mail your return or put in the wrong birthdate. Do you know what it was on file?
Be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them. You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places. Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.
My oldest dependant is 16. I have electronically filed with TurboTax for over 5 years. This is the first year of issues. First, a glitch imported 3 of the 4 dependants information messed up but was not caught in the check/verification period. Still rejected. Called IRS and they have my 16yo as a 19 yo. The woman said it was like that for years till I pointed out the return she used to verify who I was was correct. Neither her nor her supervisor could correct it. Said to paper file with her birth certificate and a note, then contact the SSA who reported it wrong.
if you had a tax person do your taxes for you, they always seem to put day, then month then year on your taxes so when you try to file yourself it will reject it. you will need to update your birthday with social security. hope this helps.
YES and I have reviewed all the paperwork and everything is correct
If you have verified with the Social Security Administration that the information for the date of birth is correct and the IRS continues to reject your e-filed tax return, then your only recourse is to print and mail your tax return.
