IRS pulled my payment twice

I was just reviewing my bank account and noticed that the IRS pulled the same payment TWICE, four days apart.  This was back in April at tax time.  I owed $3402, they pulled that amount on the 10th and on the 14th.  I can't find records of it in either IRS Direct Pay, or in EFTPS, but the money was taken.

The IRS should catch the double payment and issue you a refund.  You can also contact the IRS regarding the double payment for more information.

You can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040; don’t select Option 1 for refund that will just take you to an automated response, instead:

    - Choose Option 2 (Personal income tax)

    - Then press 1 (Form, tax history, or payment)

    - Press 4 (For all other questions)

    - Press 2 (For all other questions)

    - When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don’t enter anything.  After is asks twice, you will get another menu

    - Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions, it should then connect you to a live person

I too am still waiting and still have not been able to contact anyone from the irs. I have tried everyday since this happened atleast once.

The irs should be audited. This is unacceptable.

The state pulled my taxes due payment out twice on the same day (May 17th) after I paid through TT. I contacted my state’s taxation & revenue. The person I spoke with looked up my account and said “Yes, I see we took it out twice.” She emailed me an application for refund for an overpayment form. I filled it out and mailed it the next day. She told me to call back if I haven’t received the money in 180 days. What the heck? The state can keep almost $500 of my money for 6 months? This seems wrong. If it was my mistake of overpaying, then it’s somewhat understandable (but still a long time to wait), but this was their mistake. They have my documents, so why such a long wait? Can anything be done on my end to expedite the process?

This is a conversation you need to have with your state since they made the error. A call to your local state congress person may also be done.

I still am waiting and still can not get through to talk to a person at the irs that can help me. Everytime i call i have to explain everything again and i get the same answer. At this point it is money that is gone but i will try to get it back next year tax return some how. I also will not be using turbo tax again to avoid this issue.

I just had the IRS pull my tax payment twice from my bank account, essentially double charging me for my tax payment due.  The only system I used to file was e-file through TurboTax.  Neither Turbo tax nor the IRS appear to know what’s going on.

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
    - When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
    - After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

Thank you but I’ve tried that and talked to two different IRS agents and they are telling me I have to wait for them to show both payments as posted. I don’t have that luxury. My account is significantly overdrawn now.
