How do I resolve this with the IRS? Your software said I was due a refund.  IRS gave the refund.  Then I received letter that I owed the whole refund.  They are incorrect but how do I resolve this?? I have called them multiple times.  They cannot think outside the box and look at return.  it is a computer glitch showing a position by the round amount and not a negative.  I am beside myself and will never use this software again since the were no HELP.

The letter should say what they changed on your return.   Like if you got Social Security and they changed the taxable amount.   Or can’t match up all your withholding and tax payments.  Or left off a form like a 1099R. Etc.

They did not change anything on my return.  The just said I owed them. I had more withholding than my tax liability. Refund was $860.  It was paid b IRS in Feb  I received a late statement for $563 in interest and amended the the return. I owed $66 and paid 3/27 automatically out of checking.  Net refund on amended return was $794.  The notice said I owed the $794 AND $66. No one either at the IRS or this company is any help. I ended sending a letter with all the documents praying someone actually know how to do match and will look at the return.  I refuse to pay something I do not owe and both my 1040 and 1040X state that.

If you have reached out to the IRS and have not been able to resolve your questions, I recommend reaching out to a Taxpayer Advocate using this link.  They can act as a liaison between you and the IRS and help you resolve the confusion.
