Question

Is it better to file single or divorced on my 2023 taxes if I was divorced in 2002?

Divorced is not a filing status.  You are just Single.  It asks if you are divorced so it might ask you more interview questions.

They mean the same thing, but choose Divorced.  Both options will lead to a Single filing status... unless you qualify for Head of Household.  A divorced person who has not remarried should select that marital status to make sure that subsequent parts of the interview ask the appropriate questions.
