Question

Is medical leave same as Paid Family Leave?

After I entered in my W2 info, there's a checkbox for "Paid family leave - I earned all or part of this income as paid family leave." I went on medical leave for 2 months for a foot injury. My company does an integrated pay where I get short term disability payments from EDD, and the rest is coming out of my sick pay. The paycheck is coded as FMLA although it's using my accrued sick time. Does this situation apply to mark yes as earned income for PFL?

The "Paid Family Leave" box does not apply in your situation since it is coded as FMLA.

The 1993 Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) entitles eligible employees to take an unpaid, job-protected leave of up to 12 workweeks in a 12-month period for a family- and medical-related reasons.

Because FMLA is unpaid, it doesn't fit the definition of paid family leave.
