Question

Is my bank required to send a 1099-INT to me?

I received over $100 in interest in 2022, but my bank refused to issue me a 1099-INT. I am a resident for tax purposes in the U.S., and am required to file a 1040 tax return. My bank operates in the Mid-Atlantic.

If a bank, financial institution, or other entity pays you at least $10 of interest during the year, it is required to prepare a Form 1099-INT, send you a copy by January 31, and file a copy with the IRS.

See this TurboTax tips article for more information regarding Form 1099-INT.

See also this IRS tips article regarding the requirement to provide Form 1099-INT and how to proceed if you haven't received it.

you don't need that form to report your interest from a bank or any other institution or person.
