Question

Is my travel trailer considered a write off as a 2nd home

I purchased a Travel Trailer in Wisconsin in July 2023.  I live in Illinois.  I paid cash for the Camper from a private seller and have the Title.  It is a park model camper that is placed at a season campsite and is not driven.  I am charged lot fees annually to have the camper there.  My question is - does this qualify for a 2nd home and can it be written off, even if I paid cash for it and did not take out a loan.

    • n the United States, you can classify your travel trailer as a second home for tax purposes if it meets specific criteria set by the IRS, including sleeping, cooking facilities, and toilet facilities.
    • The tax benefits of considering your travel trailer a second home include the ability to deduct mortgage interest on it, just like a traditional second home.

There would be no writeoffs available since you paid cash except for possible sales taxes if you paid them and itemize also any annual personal property taxes.  We would need to know what in those fees you paid to advise if any are deductible.  Most likely it's ground rent and utilities which are not tax deductions.
