I took short-term disability leave to have a baby.

No, they're not the same although they can largely serve the same purpose.  Paid Family Leave is a public program that supports people who need to stay home to care for a family member and short term disability is paid by an insurance plan that an employee takes out to cover injuries.

    Congratulations on the new baby!
