Is the NYS deduction for long term care insurance working? It doesn't allow adding to the form

Yes, the NYS deduction for long term care insurance appears to be working.  Once you enter the premiums you paid in the federal interview, "Deductions and Credits," "Medical," Medical Expenses" the amount will transfer to your NY return and calculate the 20% non-refundable credit.  You can see that credit reflected in two places (see below) using online TurboTax versions. 

 

For desktop versions you can use the forms view and see NY form IT 201 Page 3-4 and IT-201 ATT.

 

1.   Click through your NY State Interview to arrive at the page titled "Let's Review Your New York Numbers".  You'll see the credit as part of the non-refundable credits line.

2.  You can also see this credit as part of the NY State Credits box in the "NY Tax Summary" found in online versions of TurboTax using these steps:

  1. "Tax Tools" in the left hand menu
  2. "Tools"
  3. "View Tax Summary" in the main screen
  4. "NY Tax Summary" in the left hand menu
