Question

Is there a way to find out how the program came up with the standard deduction? My daughter and son got two different deduction amounts (both are students).

I would like to know how the standard deduction was calculated.  Is there a way to do that?

TurboTax calculates the standard deduction according to tax law. For a dependent earning less than the standard deduction, the deduction will not be greater than earned income plus $350.

Thank you.  Do you know if the program has a way to access how they get that amount?  I searched and couldn't find how they came up with that number.

The standard deduction amount for an individual who may be claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer cannot exceed the greater of $1,100 or the sum of $350 and the individual’s earned income (not to exceed the regular standard deduction amount).
