First, use the delete key to remove any entry in the field once your cursor is positioned there in box 15.  If the state ID in box 15, is less than 6 digits place a zero or two in front of the number.  You can try the other steps below if necessary.

Some customers do not have an Employer State Identification Number listed in Box 15 on the W-2. This is causing an error when going through Federal Review. You can use these steps even if you W-2 has a state ID.

Solution

Use the federal identification number without any dashes or symbols.

If employed and living in a state without income tax, remove the wages in Box 16.

Be sure your two letter state abbreviation code is in place and then be sure you do not use any dashes or symbols in this field.
