Question

It is saying my income is much higher than the amounts on my W2's. How do I fix this when I cannot find the random 7k they are adding?

Take a look at your 1040. Almost all additions to line 7 provide an acronym on the line 7 to define where its coming from.

The most common wage additions are:

-SCH scholarship income. This comes from the entry of your 1098-T and related info. That means your scholarship exceeds your tuition. This is by far the most common wages addition

-DCB dependent care benefit. $7000 is a bit much for this

-Moving expenses. This would occur when your W2 has an amount in Box 12 Code P and you haven't entered your moving information

-Excess 401k. You'd have a 1099R for this

Look at your 1040 here:

  • Look on line 7 for hints on the dotted line. You would definitely have an "SCH" if its coming from Education area.
