Question

It’s listing my wages and tips as $1500 higher than my W-2. The info entered into Box 1 is correct. Why is TurboTax using a different number to calculate what I owe?

On the pie chart shown for how my tax refund is calculated it separates wages and tips from interest income and it lists a different number for wages and tips than in Box 1 on my W-2. I can’t for the life of me figure out where it’s getting this number. No two numbers add up to this amount and it doesn’t appear anywhere on my W-2. I’ve used TurboTax every year for my taxes and never not had these numbers match.

I suggest you look on your form 1040 to see if your income is reported correctly there. It may be that the screen you are looking at is reporting things in a way that makes it hard to understand, but your income may be entered properly on your tax return.

To view your form 1040 and schedule 1 to 3:

  1. Choose Tax Tools from your left menu bar in TurboTax Online
  2. Choose Tools
  3. Choose View Tax Summary
  4. See the Preview my 1040 option in the left menu bar and click on it
  5. Choose the Back option in the left menu bar when you are done
