Question

It says it's free to file state taxes but then it's charging me 39.99 each..It says federal is free but then $59.99..it says its free but then to pay these fees its $39.9

I have the most basic situation, so I should still be able to use the free version... Turbo Tax is so sneaky with all the fees..

state taxes should be free according to the home page/everywhere they advertise

I see you are using the Deluxe Edition. There is a charge for this product. If you have to file a state, there is also a fee to prepare the state. You can see what you are being charged for. Click on Tax Tools from the Menu on the left side in your return. Click Tools then My Fees. You can see if you qualify for the Free Edition, if you do you can downgrade.
