Question

It won't allow me to e-file only the state return. I already e-filed federal but it keeps trying to e-file both

Are you in the same account that federal was accepted in?  Just let it try Efiling Federal again.  It will reject federal but state might go through.

I had the software on the CD and filed the Federal but was unable to download state at the time (it wasn't available yet).  I am unable to access my computer so I filed through the web app but it still tries to file federal first. I followed the link and got to this step

  • 5.On the Let's get your state taxes done right screen, select Continue and follow the instructions.

but it doesnt give me the option to skip federal

Sorry if you used the Desktop program you have to file state from the same return from the Desktop program.  No way around that.

 

You would have to install the Desktop program on a computer and have the .tax2019 file from the first computer and from the actual federal return to open in the new computer to continue and file state.
