ITIN to SSN update

Hi,

I filed the 2020 tax returns for me and my spouse as Married - Jointly.

I've an SSN, but my spouse did not have ITIN/SSN at the time of filing. So I applied for ITIN using W-7 along with the returns.

While my spouse's ITIN is still under process, he received his SSN a couple of days back.

How do I update my returns with my spouse's SSN and have the IRS cancel the pending W-7 application?

Also, will this increase the EIP amounts eligible for us?

Thanks

If your return is accepted by the IRS, you can file an amendment after your submitted return has been processed by the IRS. See this FAQ on How to amend a return.

If your return is rejected, check out this FAQ to see what you can do to fix your rejected return.
