Question

Ive always prepared our taxes as married filing jointly. Im the only one who works in the household so I am wondering if filing as head of household would help us out better

No, Two reasons.

1. You are legally married so you can not file Head of House and be living with your spouse

2. The exemption for head of house is lower than MFJ so you would pay more taxes.

No.  Joint is better than Head of Household.  To file Head of Household you have to live apart from your spouse for the last 6 months of the year and claim a qualifying child.
