Kids each have income of ~$800

My daughters both participated in studies and received these payments. There was also around $200 withheld for federal taxes for each, so I would like to include these in my own return to see if some of that is refundable. However, when you get to the other income sections where child income is, this application asks if the child is required to file. The answer in their case is no, since the unearned income for each is less than $1,100. When I answer no, then it just closes that form and doesn't allow me to add the 1099-MISC info. My other option is to file tax returns for each child for free, since they would be very simple returns, but I'd rather not add two tax returns when it should be possible for me to just add it to our married filing jointly return. Any ideas from the staff or anybody else how I can get these child 1099s in?

No.   You do not enter your child's income on your own tax return.  Your children can file their own returns to seek a refund of tax withheld.  And..you have already seen that you can use the Free Edition  or Free File for that.

MY DEPENDENT HAD A JOB

If your dependent has a W-2 for his after-school job, summer job, etc. you do not include the information on your own return. You can still claim your child as a dependent on your own return.  He/she can file his own return for a refund of some of his withheld wages (he won’t get back anything for Social Security or Medicare), but MUST indicate on it that he can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return.  (Supervise this closely or prepare it for him!)

If your dependent’s earnings were over $400 and were reported on a 1099Misc or 1099NEC then he must file a return and pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare.  You may want to use this version of TT for that:
