Question

Make a personal HSA contribution before 4/17/2018 to get a refund?

I am about to complete my tax return and I just found out that I can make a personal contribution to my 2017 HSA account, since I haven't maxed it out, in order to get a higher refund for 2017.

My question is, the official deadline for making this contribution is 4/17/2018 and if I make this contribution tomorrow, is that good enough to claim it on my return? Are there any other things I should be aware of before doing this?

Thanks

Yes, you can make a contribution to your HSA for 2017 until April 17, 2018. Make sure you tell the plan administrator that the contribution applies to 2017. Then report the contribution on your tax return and file by the due date. You can use these instructions: Where do I enter my HSA contribution in TurboTax?
