I started a new job last year and had to fill out the new w4. I also got married. I selected married filing joint and put 2,000 for my dependent (1 child). No taxes were taken out on my check all year. Why???

Hi there!

It sounds like your employer made a mistake. I've seen this happen many times when an employee goes to make changes to their W-4 and instead of making the change they quit withholding altogether. The tax tables start at 10% so you should of had some withholding unless you specifically said you were exempt. I would check with your employer.

Congrats on getting married.

From the previously submitted W-4, it is highly likely that, based on your income and tax situation, there is no expected tax liability or even resulting a net refund situation. Hence no Federal tax withheld.

When there is a change in life events (getting married, new child etc.) you should submit a new W-4 to your employer.
