My wife and I want to file jointly. I work in Virginia and I am Virginia resident. My wife works in  Florida and is a Florida resident. My employer uses my Virginia address but my wife is Florida resident and her employer uses the Florida address. I have to file an Virginia State return while my wife do not need to file Florida State return What’s most applicable to our situation. I want to use Turbo Tax online version, (even if I have to pay extra) is it possible to file with online version and how to do it. Thank you.

If you and your spouse filed a joint federal return, but only one of you is a Virginia resident, the resident must use Filing Status 3.

You can use TurboTax Online.  After filing the joint federal return, look for the following in the Virginia section:

Did you have more than one state of residence in 2024? YES
Determining Your Filing Status No, MARY didn't have any income from a Virginia source.

Then you can continue to file the return correctly.

Because only one of you is a Virginia resident, you will need to file separately for Virginia tax purposes.  You can do this in TurboTax Online by creating multiple accounts, however you'll pay more to prepare your returns online this way which is why TurboTax Desktop is recommended. Your Virginia return will need to be printed, signed, and mailed.
