Question

Married with 3 jobs, promotion

My husband and I are married (filing jointly). I have two jobs, he has 1. He recently got a promotion, increasing his pay about 25%.

We found out too late my second job stopped taking federal taxes out last year after we updated filing status, causing us to owe.

We did the W4 calculator on IRS site to try and make sure we’d get a small refund next year, but now with his promotion I don’t even know how much each of our taxes should be at each job given the promotion just went into effect last month.

Can anyone assist? Do you need actual numbers to help me, if so how do I provide those?

Wow, many congrats are in order here. To you for working 2 jobs and to your husband for the promotion! The best thing to do would be to use our W4 Calculator TurboTax W4 Calculator where you will be able to input all 3 jobs. As a VERY broad rule, your withholdings will want to be somewhat close to your income tax bracket. Income tax brackets So on this page, you will find the right set of brackets which for you is either Married Filing Joint or Married Filing Separate. Then match your total income on the left side and make sure your withholdings are somewhat close to the percentage on the right side. Thanks for the question!

Hi, KimThompson690,

You can use the TurboTax's W-4 calculator.

  • For the third job, enter the amount you expect for the year as "other income."
  • If still unresolved, reach out to a tax expert at TurboTax live (1-800-4INTUIT).

This article also may help.

If this answer helps you, please cheer...

Thanks,

Karen
