Question

medical trial income on free version

How do I enter medical trial income of only $200 since I didn't receive any forms from anyone, because it's a small amount?  TT does not seem to have this option on the free version.

When I try to enter this data as other income, whether I click that I received a form or not, it tells me I have no option but to upgrade to the paid version in order to report any amount.  Same happens when I try to reclassify it (inaccurately) as hobby income.  If anyone on the free version is reimbursed for a medical trial, or a hobby for $50, for example, at any point during the year, they must "upgrade" at a price higher than what they earned.   If a person is sick and participating in research, it would be really helpful to be able to file with the free version.  I recommend making it possible to report medical trial income of small quantities using the free version.

The TurboTax Free Edition does not include Other Income reported on Schedule 1.  You will need to upgrade to TurboTax Deluxe for anything that is reported on Schedule 1, (except for student loan interest).

You can go here for a comparison of the TurboTax Online Products and what forms are included with each: TurboTax Online Product Comparison
