Question

Migrating from Windows Based Turbo Tax to TurboTax Online

Does TurboTax Online allow me to integrate my history from the MS Windows based version of TurboTax?  Or, do I have to start all over entering historical and profile data?  Obviously, this would be a competitive advantage for TurboTax to me as I move to an Online product.

The first year you use TTX online, you will be given the option to import data from the .tax2017 file on  your computer in the documents/turbotax directory. I'm not sure if that import would include historical data. But I would think it would. Be aware of a few things with the online version also.

     - Unlike the CD version, with the online version FORMS MODE is ***NOT*** an option.

     - With online TTX, one account, one return. That's it. But you can create up to 5 online accounts per e-mail address. If you create a 2nd return on the same account, then the first return is overwritten with no possible way to recover it. It's just gone, forever.

     - With TTX online you will $PAY$ for each individual return filed. It doesn't matter if you e-file, or elect to print and mail. You can't do either until after you have paid for the product.

     - Once you have paid your TTX fees for the online version, starting over is not an option and downgrading is not an option. This holds true if you "register" the free version also. Once you have registered the product or paid your online fees, you are committed. You can't clear and start over, and you can't go back to a lower less costly version of the program.

EXCELLENT information.  I am really surprised such a summary is not provided by Intuit.

    Thank you!
