I joined my work with my employer in October 2023 the first month I filled the W-4 giving by the HR that I am head of household and I am married and have two kids and my wife is unemployed, the first salary for me almost 43% tax was deducted that was oh gosh what is wrong I contacted the employer nobody knew and they said it is tax we all have to pay, I was googling things I came up with the post filling jointly tax will be less, I logged into my employer's portal and I changed the W-4 to married filling jointly I have only this one job I received my November and December salary with a higher cash the tax they deducted from my salary was 24%

what am I suppose to do to get the difference of the first month

Thank you

You employer does not refund you the difference in taxes you paid based on the different W-4's you gave them.

On your 2023 tax return you report the income and taxes withheld from the W-2 received from the employer.

If your total tax payments are greater than your total tax liability on your tax return you will get a tax refund for the overpayment.
