Please send us a diagnostic copy of your return for us to review.  A diagnostic copy removes all your personal data but provides us with the  numbers in the return. 

 

In TurboTax Online:  
Click Tax Tools in the menu to the left.
Click Tools, and then
Click Share my file with Agent.
A pop-up message will appear. Click OK to send the sanitized diagnostic copy to us.
Provide the token number that is generated onto this thread.

I am using the desktop version of Turbotax deluxe, but am getting the same issue. (I don't see code 0499 anywhere, but see that referenced on many people with this issue, maybe they're using TT Online?) I have now submitted my MN state tax return twice and it has been rejected both times for the same reason: "M1 line 5, if present, then dependent must be present and must match dependents on 1040". Another commenter was told they need to mail it; but I've already paid the $25 to e-file. Would that be reimbursed? 

 

I've also sent my tax file to a turbotax agent and received a token number, which I can provide if a Turbotax agent will contact me. Thank you— I hope you'll be able to resolve this soon. Taxes are due in a couple weeks.

The error has to do with a qualifying widow(er) filing status.  If you are filing using that status then a dependent is also required on your return. 

 

  1. First, verify in the federal "Personal Info" interview your filing status and dependents are correct.  
  2. Then click "Online" at the top left of your TurboTax screen 
  3. Select "Check for updates"  
  4. Follow the prompts to ensure you have all the updates.    
  5. Once that process is complete close the program and re-open.   
  6. Go to "Forms View" in the upper right of your screen. 
  7. Find your MN form M1 in the left hand menu and select it.  
  8. Check the filing status boxes and dependents for accuracy.  
  9. If everything looks good go back to "step-by-step"  
  10. Click the "File" tab in the upper middle of your screen 
  11. Try the efile steps again

 

If the filing status and/or dependents are not showing correctly or the efile rejects again post your token number here in the forum.
