Moved from VA to KS mid-year. Using TurboTax Deluxe, how much will it cost for me to download and file 2 tax returns for two different states and one federal return?

So for Desktop Deluxe from Turbo Tax it is currently $70 for federal and 1 state program.   Then $40 for the second state program and $20+20 to efile the 2 state returns.  Total $150 plus any tax.   Or just $110 if you print and mail the state returns.

You can click on the blue state links.  Oh I see it says $25 to efile state now.

For the Online version or the Desktop program?  For Online which hadn’t opened yet you pay for each state return and federal.  The Online fees are to prepare the returns whether you efile or print and mail.   Efiling is included.

For the Desktop program the purchase includes federal and 1 state program.  You would have to buy a second state program download for $40.   The federal efile is free but it is $20 each to efile state returns, or you can print and mail state for free.  But be careful, if you buy Deluxe somewhere else it comes 2 ways, Deluxe with state and Deluxe without state for states that don’t have an income tax.  So read the description before you buy.

Thanks, Volvo Girl.  Appreciate the quick response.  So it's $70 for TT deluxe plus $20 if I want to efile, plus another $40 for the second state and $20 more if I want to efile.   $150 is pretty steep.  I have bought the $70 deluxe version and will play it by ear from there.

I seem to remember that when you need to buy a second state for the desktop program, that second state includes e-filing.  Only the first free (or included) state requires a separate fee to e-file.  But I could be wrong.  The desktop program is usually sold at a discount by retailers like Office Max, Best Buy or Amazon.

Also, the separate e-file fee is only charged when you actually file, not when you install the program, and when it gets closer to the April 15 deadline, the price usually goes up.

Of course, if you need to file more than one return (such as for a family member in the same situation), once you have the federal and state modules installed, you only pay the state e-filing fee for the second set of returns.
