My 27 your old daughter is in grad school. She has 0 income. She is on Medicaid in Pennsylvania. Can I claim her as a dependent, without affecting Medicaid eligibility

You may be able to claim your daughter as a qualifying relative dependent if she meets the requirements below. TurboTax will ask you a series of questions about your daughter through the interview screens to make the determination. Claiming your daughter as a dependent will not affect her Medicaid eligibility,

 

  • Do they live with you? Your relative must live at your residence all year or be on the list of “relatives who do not live with you” in Publication 501. About 30 types of relatives are on this list.
  • Do they make less than $4,400 in 2022? Your relative can't have a gross income of more than $4,400 in 2022 and be claimed by you as a dependent.
  • Do you financially support them? You must provide more than half of your relative’s total support each year.
