My aunt died 02/14/19. I was her POA and used tubo tax to file her returns. How do I file her last return as her executor?

First of all, be aware that the power of attorney dissolves upon the persons death and you will have to go to court in your state to be appointed her administrator. This may be as simple as a single form if her estate is small and uncomplicated.

Then, if you have access to a TurboTax online account in her name, you can continue to use it to file her return. Any income received before her death is filed on this tax return. There is a box to check in the personal information interview for “this taxpayer died” and add the date of her death. You would print it, sign it as personal administrator, and mail it to the IRS. Even if you tried to e-file, her SSN is probably blocked.

If she received additional income after her death, that belongs to the her estate, and you would need to file a separate form 1041 estate tax return. That can only be done with TurboTax by using the TurboTax business program, which is only available on a CD or download for PC— it is not available online or for Mac.
