Question

My co. sent 3 W2s. The 1st is the primary. The second is only for DD (Box 12). The 3rd shows a smaller amt in box 19 than my primary W2. Do I combine or use the larger?

Yes, it seems that they have sent you a federal copy, a state and/or locality copy and a "carryover copy" of the same W-2. I am assuming the second and third copies of the W-2 do not have amounts in boxes 1-6?

It probably will require information from all 3 copies to create a complete W-2 to input into your return.

Is the EIN number in box b the same or different?  If it is different then enter both of them separately.

If the EIN number is the same and you work in more than 1 state or city, sometimes they will give you another W2 with the extra state information on it and the top part the same or not filled in.

If this is the case, list one W-2 but include both state or local  taxes on it.  It will let you type in more than one line for boxes 15-20. Don't add the boxes together.  Same for boxes 12 & 14 if there is no room on the first W2 they can give you another W2 with the extra boxes on it.  So list them all on 1 W2.  For box 12 just enter it in the next row or box.  It doesn't have to match the box 12c etc.

Also, check out box 20.  Are there two different locality names in all the copies of W-2 in box 20?  If so, then you need to enter each of them separately with the accompanying information in boxes 18, 19, and 20 belonging together.  Do not combine two different locality groupings into one...they must both be entered separately.

Boxes 15-17 contain the state ID, wages, and taxes withheld information.
