Here is how the desktop works

You  can do unlimited returns -federal and state

you can only efile federal 5 times - IRS policy ; the rest can just be submitted in paper form . No charge

you need to buy any additional states that you need but once purchased you can do unlimited returns

you are charged to efile the state return in most states (NY is free) but you can mail in paper form and avoid these charges

make sense?

Are all the state returns for the same state?  In the Desktop program you get one free state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns. Then each state return (including the first one) is $20 to efile, usually goes up to $25 March 1. Or you can print and mail state for free.

Is this the first time you use Turbo Tax Desktop program?  You can do unlimited returns and efile 5 federal.

FYI - Be sure to save frequently, go up to File-Save or Save As.  Save each return with a name you can tell apart from another one.  Especially if another return has the same name or initial.  Like a father and son.  Or if you have the same name the second return might overwrite the first one.

I have Home & Business also if you have questions.   Are you on Windows or Mac?

Hi...thank you!  I have been using turbo tax since 1994; desktop/PC platform. 2001 I switched to Home and Business.   I have had my daughter use it a couple times.  Yea, she doesn't need to efile her state.  All three of us are in NJ so it's one state but i know you can only efile one state return

You can  file unlimited state returns, not just 1.  Read my post above again.
