Question

My daughter applied for a stimulus check and received it. Now my tax filing has been rejected as I normally mark her as a dependent. What are my options?

My daughter applied for a stimulus check and received it. Now my tax filing has been rejected as I normally mark her as a dependent. I am worried she will lose her health insurance under me. Can I send the money back in or get this amended somehow? I have always claimed her as a dependent.

Does she qualify as your dependent?

    • She is under age 19, or under 24 if a full time student for at least 5 months of the year, or is totally & permanently disabled

    OR

    • You provided more than half of their financial support. More info
    • They made less than $4,200 in gross income during 2019
    • They live with you the entire year
    • They are a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident.
    • They aren't (or won't be) claimed as a dependent by someone else.
    • They aren’t filing a joint return with their spouse.
    • You are not being claimed as a dependent on someone else's return.
