Question

My daughter has a child and she lives with me. She has a job and files her own taxes with her child. She pays nothing to live here. Can I claim her?

You can’t claim her if she is over age 18, is not a full time student and earned more than $4,200.

No, your daughter will not be eligible to claim herself or her daughter if you claim her as a dependent. The IRS does not allow a dependent taxpayer to claim a dependent. Please view the rules for claiming a dependent for more information about claiming a dependent.
