Question

My daughter is 22 and we want to know when we should stop claiming her as a dependent. Are there any basic rules that apply?

Yes, there are certain rules.

Since she is your daughter, and she is not under 19, she would need to be a student in order to be considered your "qualifying child".

If she is not a student, she would need to have earned less than $4,050 in 2016 to be considered your "qualifying relative".
