Question

My daughter works and will be filing her own return. But, she doesn't pay half of the home expenses. Can i claim her as a dependent or no?

How old was she on 12/31/2021, and was she a full time student in 2021?

Hello,

In 2021 she was 18 and a full- time student.

she's your Qualifying child (dependent) if for 2021

  •  Same principal abode as you for more than ½ the tax year.  Temporary absences like for school are ignored
  • If not a full-time student, under 19 at the end of the tax year.  If a full-time student under 24 at end of the tax year.
  • Hasn’t provided over ½ her own support. who pays for her schooling?

support would include home expenses, schooling, food and clothing etc. so yo would have had to cover over 1/2

here's a link to IRS worksheet for support
