My exwife and I divorced this February 2019. I have the capability to file separately. I believe i would get more of a refund back this way. Is there a way I can check

before i put her information in i had a refund of 8580 now it says 1261. should i file married and head of house hold.  IS there a way to check this back and forth

If you were still married at the end of 2018, then your filing choices are married filing jointly or married filing separately.  The other possibility IF you were separated for at least the last six months of 2018 AND you had the children is to file as Head of Household.    If there are no dependent children involved then Head of Household is not a choice.

If you want to compare Joint vs MFS,

You can not compare that in the Online version.  If you are using the Online version don't go changing it around.  It won't work and won't give you the right results.  And it will mess up your account and return. You just can't change from joint to separate.  For Online you would have to set up 3 accounts, 1 Joint and 1 each for both of you separate.  You don't have to pay unless you want to print or file. 

You can do multiple returns in the Desktop program.  And it has a What-If Worksheet you can use to compare them.
