My federal and state taxes were 1,300, income was 35,000 in 2017 federal and state taxes are 2,800, income 60,000 in 2018 my income increase caused my tax increase?

There were major Federal tax law changes in 2018.

However, you cannot just compare taxes  and income from year to year. You must also look at withholdings, deductions, credits, etc.  That being said, you had a significant increase in income, so likely landed in a higher tax bracket.
