My federal got rejected with Reject Code IND-517-02. So I amended my son's taxes and mark box saying he can be claimed as a dependent. I still can't fill my taxes.

Reject code IND-517 indicates a dependent listed on your return has already been claimed on another return as either the taxpayer or the spouse.
How do I fix my return?
To correct your return:
Check the Social Security Number of the dependent to make sure it has been recorded correctly
If you cannot claim the person as your dependent remove the dependent from the return and e-file again. Go to:
Basic Information
Dependents/Qualifying Person
Check the box "This qualifying child is NOT YOUR DEPENDENT."
E-file the return.
If you can claim the person as a dependent on your return
Print, sign and mail the return. The IRS will review both returns to make a determination on who should be claiming the person in question. The IRS may ask for documents to prove the person can be claimed as a dependent on your return. The IRS mailing address can be found on theIRS websiteaccording to your state.

My daughter forgot to check the box that said I can claim her as a dependent. She filed. I was unable to efile my taxes as a result. We had her amend her return. I still could not efile. I had her get an IP pin and I still could not efile. We tried one more option where I requested an IP pin for this year, and I submitted efile with her IP pin and my IP pin (but not my wife's) and this time the efile went through! 2024 tax year, and just today it went through.
Timing wise - daughter corrected her return and refiled Sunday, and today is Wednesday - so that is fairly fast turn around.
Even though you have amended your son's return, his Social Security number has already been "used" by the e-file system as primary on another return. Therefore, you will need to change your filing method to "mail", print the return, sign it, attach copies of W2s or other documents showing any tax withholding and mail it to the address provided on the TurboTax instruction sheet.

I had the same issue as you. I submitted my daughter's taxes and forgot to check the box that says, "someone else can claim you as a dependent". When I submitted my tax return through Turbot Tax e-file it was rejected with code IND-517-02. I amended hers and resubmitted it, it was accepted by IRS. I then resubmitted mine and it was again rejected. I spoke with someone at IRS they said the system doesn't look at any amended returns. She said I could possibly use the IP PIN and resubmit it. I looked back at Turbo Tax (desktop version) and one of the sections/notifications when I was going back to the "help me fix" sections, it said if I still wanted to submit my return through e-file anyway after the rejection, to log into my account at IRS and request an IP PIN. I used this PIN and entered it in the personal "other" section in Turbo Tax. I did that, resubmitted it and both federal and state were accepted. I did not have to mail them. Yay!
I am exactly on the same boat as you were. My son amended his return a week ago. I gave it a week to refile. Still the same rejection. I got me an IP PIN. It still rejected me. How long since the amendment did IRS accepted your return?

Amending their tax return will not allow you to e-file your tax return, not matter how long you wait. You will have to print and mail your tax return including him as a dependent on your return.
I got the following rejection text - >>>>>>>>>>>>>> IND-517-02 - 'DependentSSN' in the return must not be the same as Primary or Spouse SSN on another return where Primary or Spouse have not indicated that they could be claimed as a dependent on someone else's return. Visit Link to IRS.gov for additional information. To electronically file with this duplicate condition, an Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) will be required. If you wish to get an IP PIN and you don't already have an account on IRS.gov, then you must register to validate your identity. Please visit www.irs.gov/getanippin for further information and resubmit your return with an IP PIN.

I did the following-
1. Filed an amendment return for my daughter with the correction. Someone can claim me as dependent checkmark was missed in my daughter’s return. This change also had an effect on her state taxes.
2. As per the rejection email, got the IP PIN for MYSELF and retransmitted by return.
Did 1. In the morning and 2. in the night. Basically both in the same day.
