My federal return was supposed to be issued by 4/19/19. The status says it is still being processed? Why is this taking so long

The refund date that TurboTax gives you when you file is an estimate. TurboTax always gives you an estimated date that is 21 days after you e-filed. The IRS says they pay 9 out of 10 refunds within 21 days. That means that the TurboTax estimate will be right 9 times out of 10, but 1 out of every 10 takes longer. Only the IRS can tell you why your refund is taking longer than average. If it's more than 21 days since you e-filed, you can call them at 800-829-1040 and ask why.
