Question

My filing has not changed ever since I started filing taxes, so why do I now owe the IRS over 1,000? I did not underpay.

Of course, we in the Community cannot see your private data, so we could only guess at what changed.

I would suggest that you get your copy of your 2020 1040 and compare it line by line with your 2021 1040. The answer should jump out at you.

One reason this might happen even if you made no changes is that children keep growing older. A child who is eligible for the Child Tax Credit one year might not be the next year.

Do the line by line comparison and see what pops.
