I'm very sorry for your loss.

If you have taxable income for 2022, you can still file a return even though it is late.  You will need to purchase the 2022 software to install on your own Mac or PC from a CD or download.  Some companies like Amazon might still have 2022 software for sale, or you can buy direct from Turbotax here.  In most cases, the Deluxe program will meet your needs.

For 2022 you will still file a joint return (married filing jointly) listing all your combined income, deductions and credits.  You will need to print your return and mail it.

Then for 2023, you will probably file as single, unless you provide care in your home for a qualifying dependent under age 19 (or under age 24 if they are also a full time student).  This can be your child or grandchild for example.  If you don't have a dependent, then you just file as single.  You can use any version of Turbotax (including the online program).  However, you may not be able to e-file.  When asked for your 2022 AGI to verify your identity, try zero (since you didn't file).  If that doesn't work, you will also need to print and mail your 2023 return.

Did your spouse receive any income in his name in 2023 (like a late bonus or commission payout)?  There are a few options we can discuss.

Did your spouse have a 401k, 403b, IRA, or other tax-preferred retirement account that you have inherited?  There are also some options there.  Post back with more details.

Does your spouse have a large estate, or more complex ongoing activities?  (Such as, he was an author or artist with ongoing receipt of royalties?)  You may need professional assistance.
