Question

My husband worked in another state for 4 months out of the year, at the end. Where do I enter that information?

Include all the income on your federal return. If your husband's work state has an income tax, file a nonresident tax return for that state. Anyone who either lives or works in a state is liable for income tax.

If your state has an income tax, you can claim a credit on your home state tax return for income taxes by two states.

If your husband's work state does not have an income tax, then there is no credit. You may state tax because his employer probably did not withhold tax from your home state.
