My husband works and resides ina different state. He filed married filing separately back in march in one of those pop up tax prep stands without telling me. When I tried submitting our taxes in July,

Married persons can file separately if either spouse wants to.   Filing jointly requires an agreement to do so.

If  you agreed  to file jointly then his return needs to be amended to include your information ... since you have 2 states to also take into consideration I highly recommend you seek local professional guidance in this matter ... this is not an easy DIY project.
