Question

My income for 2019 was $17000 and I have one dependent. I filed as single but I think my refund would be higher if I had filed HoH.

My son is a full-time student and lives at school but I maintain our home and thus pay more than half of his living expenses.

The standard deduction for the Single filing status is $12,200 and the standard deduction for the Head of Household filing status is $18,350.

Using the Head of Household filing status would result in $0 taxable income given the income shown in your question, so most likely your refund would be a little higher.

You can file an amended return to change your filing status from Single to Head of Household.  See the following TurboTax article for instructions to create an amended tax return: How do I amend my 2019 TurboTax Online return?
