I know this can be quite frustrating!  Unfortunately, there isn't a way to speed the process up.

"Pending" doesn't indicate that there is any problem, just that your return is still in line - waiting for either the IRS or your state to pick it up out of the queue and process it.

Most returns move out of this status within 48 hours of the date that the IRS or state begins to accept returns but sometimes, it can take a little bit longer.

As soon as your return status changes, you will get an e-mail or text message (if you signed up for text alerts.)

I filed on 1/31..used turbo tax in 2017, never had an issue with this software. This year, I am also wondering way i am still in pending status to be accepted by the IRS...just curious. File the same way every time, i have not had any changes.

Pending simply means that your e-filed return is on its way and that the government hasn't accepted or rejected it yet.

Since you e-filed your return in January, it'll stay in Pending status until the IRS starts processing the backlog of returns.

After January, e-filed returns generally sit in Pending status for 24–48 hours before coming back as either Accepted or Rejected. Sometimes state returns stay in Pending for several days or even longer.

Until your state or the IRS processes your return,  you may hear there's "no record found." That actually means the return's still being processed. Just check back in a few days.

correct, and it has been since Jan 31, but it has been 72 hours now. Just wondering what the hold up is or why it is taking so long for it to be accepted or rejected by IRS
