Question

My son filed his own taxes and put himself as an independent. He has since updated that to be adependent. What do I need to do so that my taxes won't be rejected?

My taxes were rejected because I wasn’t aware he did. He amended his taxes to be a depending and it had been accepted. How do I file my taxes now?

You will either have to print and mail your tax return or you can go to the IRS website to get an Identity Protection PIN so that you can e-file the tax return.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for how to print and mail a tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/printers-printing/print-mail-return-turbotax-online/L5bwuqXGy_US_en_US?uid=ma9ui2xg

Go to this IRS website for an IP PIN - https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin

To enter, edit or delete a 6 digit IP PIN

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Other Tax Situations
Scroll down to Other Return Info
On Identity Protection PIN, click the start button

Thank you! Would I need the PIN for myself or for my son?

You would need the IP PIN for yourself only.  And this is just so that you can e-file your 2024 tax return instead of having to print and mail the tax return.
