My son is in college and I pay for all of it but he made $7K + $250 in short term stock selling. Should i claim him as a dependent? Or should he file separately?

You can still claim him if he is under 24 as a student and did not pay more than half of his own support, but he needs to file his own return reporting his income.

When he files, he will need to mark that someone else can claim him as a dependent on his return.
