My Son has been incarcerated all of 2024.  Has has zero income so he doesn't have any W-2s to check he was inmate.  How would he file his tax return. Federal and State: IN

No, you do not have to let the IRS know.   The IRS will not receive any sort of W-2 or 1099 for him from an employer or client, so the IRS will not be expecting or looking for a 2024 tax return from him.

If he had no income he has no reason to file an income tax return.

Don't need to let the IRS or the State know his situation for 2024 so they don't think he failed to file.  He has had income the last 2 years and filed tax returns of course?
