Solved

My spouse got their name changed after we got married last year. When I try to upload the PDF proof, Turbotax wants me to add my name changes as well - it didn't change.

Turbotax wants me to add a PDF of the my spouse's name change, but the first prompt wants me to populate another name change. Are these two the same? My name didn't change, but hers did. The turbotax prompts are confusing us.

Yes, this section doesn't flow well if the person with the name change is listed second on the tax return.

I am assuming that you are asking about the Georgia state tax return name change document requirement. If that isn't right, please respond back with more about what you are trying to do.

Through testing, I found the easiest approach was to enter the name change document for both, then go back through and delete it from the one that didn't change their name.

Here's how to do that:

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax account.
  2. Select State Taxes, then Your State Returns.
  3. Select Edit to the right of Georgia.
  4. On the screen Your 2023 Georgia taxes are ready for us to check, select Edit to the right of Other situations.
  5. Select Revisit to the right of Indicate You Have Changed Your Name.
  6. Answer Yes to Has Your Name Changed?
  7. Select Browse and attach the name change document.
  8. Select Continue, then repeat for the spouse
  9. Select Revisit to the right of Indicate You Have Changed Your Name.
  10. Select Continue.
  11. Delete the document from the first screen by selecting the trash can icon, then confirm your delete.
  12. Select Skip.
  13. Next, you should see the Spouse's document is still there.
  14. Continue with your return.
