If you have a 1095A because you had marketplace health insurance, you are required to enter it on your federal tax return.

Whether or not the state requires you to have insurance does not determine whether or not you need to include the 1095-A. Did you have insurance through the marketplace?  If so, did you get the Premium Tax Credit in Column C?  If so, then you will need to enter it by selecting the following:

  • Federal
  • Deductions and Credits
  • See All Tax Breaks
  • Show More next to medical
  • Start next to the Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A)
  • Walk through the steps to enter your 1095-A information
  • This will generate form 8962

Form 8962 is only for those who received the Premium Tax Credit in Advance or are eligible to receive it and want to receive it when they file their return.
